For the first time, after extensive research, we introduce one of the most logistically challenging Adventures in Crazy Puffin’s history! In 2026, join us on an 8-day expedition across West Africa, exploring three countries and uncovering the region’s hidden gems alongside the vibrant Voodoo Festival. Led by Bjorn and supported by the best local crew, this journey will take you deep into the heart of West Africa, from the iconic Fetish Market to immersive cultural experiences — offering an authentic adventure like no other.

Day 1: Arrival in Accra  Cape Coast / Elmina

To make the most of our time, we need to arrive a day earlier in Accra and we arrange pre-accommodation for you.

We start by exploring the Ga tribe's settlements in Accra, followed by a visit to Makola Market to experience its vibrant trade culture. Next, we'll see Independence Square and the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum before heading to Cape Coast, home to UNESCO sites like Cape Coast and Elmina Castles, key landmarks of the transatlantic slave trade. We'll engage with local fishermen, artisans, and women's cooperatives. If time allows, we'll visit Kakum National Park for a canopy walk.

Day 2:

Elmina to Ada

Early morning departure to Ada where we visit ancestral museum, participate in traditional salt
winning with the Ada people at songor salt lagoon - a UNESCO biosphere reserve known for its rich biodiversity and cultural heritages. We would visit indigenous women weaving local mat on island in the volta river.

Day 3:

Ada - Lome - Kpalime

We prepare to cross border to Togo where we shall commence our adventure into the medium of African spirituality. At the central market (locally named Asigame) we would appreciate artistic expressions in African fabrics industry of Togo. Thereafter, we shall discover the voodoo market centre - a multipurpose hub for those practicing Africa traditional beliefs.

Day 4:

Kpalime to Kara

Today we ascend to reach the north of Togo and Benin. This region offers us opportunities to delve into cultural adventure as we discover ethnic groups with authentic architectural heritages and
cultural identities expressed through their appearances , painting, dances etc. Enrout Kara, we shall stop over at Bafillo to visit the kotokoli ethnic group. We would observe their weave skills in producing traditional regalia including ceremonial clothes.

Day 5:

Kara to Natitingou to Djougou

Early morning departure for very engaging day with the inhabitants of the Atakora ranges of mountains starting with visit to Koutammakou the land of Batammariba or the tamberma people with their tachieta fortresses and tribal marks. The next target is to reach Taneka tribe after crossing to Benin (north) to meet their spiritual cheifs who till date wear only animal skins. With luck we may meet the young men undergoing their ritual journey to get circumcised or get married. On the way we shall meet the somba tribe and they will explain to us the meaning of the coded designs of their fortresses.

Day 6:

Djougou to Abomey

The vibes of the ancient kingdom of dahomey with its remarkable royal homes and outstanding culture and historical assets are still highly upheld. This part of our trip brings us to capture the past and present moments of the royal kingdom of abomey including amazon - the women warriors, symbolic and thick wall fencing around the palaces of this ancient kingdom.

Day 7:

Abomey to Ouidah

This is vodoun day. We would head to Ouidah the converging place for the nation’s vodoun festival ceremonies. We shall join celebrants as they share all about vodoun culture with the public. The Port of No Return that echoes the events of slavery, Temple of Pythons which pours out wealth and protect the people, the Sacred Forest which is the place of abode of ancestral spirit of Kpasseh; are
key places to visit in Ouidah before we exit.

Day 8:

Ouidah - Ganvie - Cotonou

Our last place of visit is Ganvie - floating community of Tofinu tribe on lake Nokuoe.
Often referred to as the Venice of Africa by visitors, you will witness how the Tofinu people use canoe to organise every facet of life on the lake Nokuoe and have well adopted and adapted to living on water- managing and advancing all socio economic life over centuries including market centres, schools, hotels, etc. After this visit we shall prepare to leave Ganvie for departure at Cotonou.

Is this Adventure for me?

We're heading on an 8-day overland journey through Ghana, Togo, and Benin, exploring local tribes, the famous Fetish Market, and experiencing the vibrant Voodoo Festival up close. It's a fully immersive trip with lots of cultural encounters and off-the-beaten-path moments. If you're up for something unique, adventurous, and unforgettable, this is definitely for you!

How does the booking process work?

Your spot will be secured as soon as we receive your deposit payment.

For this Adventure you can ask to pay the balance in 2 installments.

How do I get visa for Ghana, Togo & Benin?

You can apply for a Ghana visa at your nearest embassy, and we'll provide you with all the supporting documents needed. If you'd prefer to skip the paperwork, we can arrange a Ghana VOA for you, although it's slightly more expensive.

For Benin, you'll need to apply for an e-visa online, and we'll guide you through the process.

The Togo visa is easily obtained on the ground during the trip.

What is the minimum/maximum number of participants on this trip?

We do have a guarantee of departure for this trip. 
And we take a maximum of 12 people + crew for this Adventure.

What flights I need to book?

​Our Adventure starts in Accra, Ghana. We need to arrive a day earlier to make the most of our time, as we start early the next morning. The journey finishes in Cotonou, Benin, where you can fly out to your home country. We'll provide guidance on the best flights to book.

Do I need to bring cash?

Cash is preferred in most places, so it’s wise to carry EURO. ATMs can be sparse, particularly in rural areas, but are available in bigger cities.

Can I come as a solo traveler

That’s absolutely not a problem! You will be paired with another like-minded solo traveler and share the room with him/her. Or you can get a single supplement for an additional fee. With single supplement you will get your own room.
